Yahoo Says Hackers Stole Personal Data From Nearly 500 Million Users

In what could be the largest data breach in history, Yahoo has reported that the company’s databases were breached in 2014, affecting over 500 million user accounts.

The company has blamed it on ‘state-sponsored’ hackers but did not name which country the hackers were from. Users’ names, email addresses, telephone numbers, dates of birth, encrypted passwords, as well as encrypted and unencrypted security questions and answers were compromised in the attack. According to media reports, Yahoo’s massive breach could affect their upcoming $4.8 billion deal with Verizon.
