OnePlus has finally launched the highly anticipated OnePlus 2 smartphone via its gimmicky virtual reality event which will be available via invite on August 11.

The device will arrive in two variants, a 16GB model with 3GB of RAM and a 64GB variant with 4GB of RAM- the former will be made available sometime after August 11.

The OnePlus 2 features a 5.5-inch FHD (1080p) display, 3300mAh battery, Snapdragon 810 processor, 13MP (f2.0) camera with OIS and laser autofocus, 5MP front camera, USB Type-C port and fingerprint scanner, 4G LTE, mute switch, and runs on Oxygen OS 2.0 that’s built on Android 5.1.1.

In terms of design, the OnePlus 2 is similar to the One, but is just made of nicer materials. There’s an aluminum band that runs the periphery of the device, while the back retains its grippy, textured finish.

There are also style swap back covers which will be available in 5 styles. Apparently they’re easier to swap out than on the OnePlus One. The mute switch on the side is unusual for an android device and toggles between the three standard notification settings – All, priority and none.

When it comes to the software, we all knew Cyanogen was getting the boot this time around. Oxygen OS 2.0 is a very mild skin of stock Android 5.1.1 Lollipop with helpful additions of gestures such as tap to wake the screen and draw circle to launch the camera.

The biggest change, however, is something OnePlus calls ‘Shelf’. It lies where Google Now lies in the stock Google Launcher and collects all your favorite contacts and apps in one place. Google now is still accessible by long pressing the home button.

Pricing for the OnePlus 2 16GB model hasn’t been announced yet, while the 64GB model will cost Rs 24,99. The Device will be available exclusively on Amazon India and will be sold through the pesky invite system.
