Facebook’s Project to Bring Internet to Rural India Goes Live

After getting slammed for its Free Basics program, which proposed bringing limited internet access, Facebook is back again with a new scheme.

Express WiFI, which is now live after months of testing, is the social network’s project to bring internet access to rural India, and the company says it’s “working with local internet providers or mobile operators” who are able to use “software provided by Facebook to connect their communities.”

But unlike, Free Basics, Express Wifi isn’t free and comes with a small fee to access the entire internet, putting aside any potential net neutrality concerns.

The details of the cost and the places the service is available were not made clear by Facebook.
