The recent move came after Delhi’s pollution levels were declared ‘hazardous’, as the US embassy’s monitoring station recorded an air quality index of 372. The new appeal by the government could be a promising way out of all the criticism it received recently, after the media and the public thrashed the government for its inefficiency.

Delhi city surprisingly overtook Tokyo in terms of population; data suggests that the number has gone up to 25 million in 2014–doubled since 1990, says a report complied by the UN.

Ringo’s New Domestic Calling Service Allegedly Blocked In spite Of Trai & DoT Compliance

Bhavin Turakhia’s Ringo recently launched a domestic voice-calling service in India priced at 19 paise per minute, in partnership with their service providers. However, Ringo mentioned in their website that the service allegedly seems to have been blocked since today.

The company also mentioned that in spite of that their service following all aspects of the DoT and TRAI regulations, the block was allegedly enforced by telecom operators.

Ringo“We will continue to persevere in providing innovative voice solutions, and intend to take relevant remedial action, but do not have an ETA on the same. As it stands, until we manage to get an intervention from relevant regulatory authorities to unblock our service, none of our domestic calls are going through,” said Ringo in their website.

Following are the steps being taken by Ringo after service disruption:

  • We will be pausing Ringo Domestic calling rollout until such time that we resolve this issue. We believe we are on the right side of the law and hence expect a favorable resolution in due course of time.
  • We will be seeking clarity from our service providers on this tomorrow since it is the middle of the night here right now.
  • If we find out that the process is likely to take longer than 2-3 days, we will immediately refund any unutilized amounts you have paid us. These should reflect on your debit / credit cards or netbanking accounts. It will take us a few days to process netbanking refunds, and my team will revert to you with an ETA on this shortly.
  • You can of course continue to utilize Ringo for the purpose of making high quality international calls as you have been doing so far.
  • We will keep all of you updated every step of the way.

NOTE: Ringo International Calls will continue to work as it is without any issues.

Myntra Ditches App-only Model, Will Roll Out Mobile Website Soon [Finally]

Myntra has decided to drop their app-only ‘long-term strategy’ and is rolling out a mobile website, which is currently under pilot testing.

The development comes after their app-only strategy backfired with a steep fall in traffic and sales.

Snapshot of Myntra’s Google Play Store Reviews

It would be on the lines of a catalogue available on the mobile site and simultaneously it would put Myntra back on the Google search platform,” a source told TOI.

Myntra’s alexa ranking fell from 17 to an all-time low of 289 in India; it fell 713 positions from global ranking perspective [in just three months]. Customers too expressed dissatisfaction against the app within months as there was surge 1 star ratings.

They also fell to the competition from their rivals like Jabong and Snapdeal as many customers reported facing app crashes while purchasing from Myntra’s app.

Myntra’s parent Flipkart recently launched a ‘Lite’ version of it portal for mobile users. Their rival Snapdeal also came out with a similar strategy in November this year.

– Competitor, Voonik too ditched its app-only model and launched a desktop site.

Govt Denies Having ‘Discreet Agreements’ With Facebook, Twitter For Access

The government today told the Delhi HC that its media wing and other IT departments comply with ‘standard agreements’ while using social platforms like facebook, twitter and YouTube—and not any other formal or discrete agreement.

A government said in an affidavit that “the standard agreements for use of social media have been accepted in ‘click and wrap’ mode and no other formal or separate agreement was signed as a part of account creating process.”

The DeitY submitted the affidavit after a PIL filed by former BJP leader K N Govindacharya raised questions on social media usage by the government.

The HC then ordered the government to submit details regarding agreements with social media platforms (facebook, twitter) that the govt uses.

The DeitY stated that the media wing of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) was also using Facebook, Twitter and YouTube platforms of social media for “information dissemination.”

What The PIL Pointed Out

Govindacharya’s advocate, Virag Gupta stated that the government could have contracts with social media platforms, and as per the contract, the govt. is “transferring/surrendering all intellectual property rights of the data being uploaded.”

The court had previously observed that when any content is uploaded on social media sites by the govt sources, the websites got a licence to the intellectual property rights (IPR) of the content without paying any royalty;

The court then asked the Centre whether it was aware of the development.

PM Modi’s #Giveitup Campaign Website Is Misspelled And Then Taken Down

The Give It Up or #Giveitup campaign introduced by PM Modi asks government officials and employees to give up their LPG subsidy. It was originally was hosted on a website named ‘givitup.in’ which has a very obvious spelling mistake (the vowel ‘e’ missing in the domain).

Apparently ‘www.givitup.in’ now shows a sign that says “the domain has expired” and that is available for registration. But there is a surprise!

Most campaigns strive to be available on the ‘.com’ or ‘.net’ sub-domain, here the campaign rests on a ‘.in’ sub-domain. [Pretty genius thing to do for a campaign website, just saying].

Maheshwar Peri, Founder and Chairman, CAREERS 360 was the first to point out this, and other errors on his Facebook page.

“For the amount of money being spent, I would have blocked every possible sub domain. But they only go for (a) .in. A dream fructifies with a strategy, a plan and meticulous execution. I still wish it works out, but this execution still takes away a lot of sheen of the dream. And heads must roll for bad execution,” he stated.
