ZomatoOnline restaurant and food guide has booted out Apple maps from its iOS app in its latest update. It now works on the mapping service provided by rival Google maps. Hopefully, the switch will improve the whole experience.

Since the release of Google Maps SDK for iOS last month, more and more apps and developers have been switching to Google. With the SDK, developers can build apps that allows users to view and interact with a Google map in the iOS app.

Apple Maps lack a lot of detail especially when it comes to India. When Apple Maps was rolled out for iOS 6, users were outraged over the shoddy application.

As the Zomato app relied heavily on Apple Maps, a user’s location was often wrong which resulted in searches and recommendations being very inaccurate. With Google Maps this is bound to improve has one can already see with its Android app.

Besides the integration with Google Maps, Zomato has also introduced other features like ‘Happy Hours’ for restaurants, improved Facebook integration and the ability to use your Google account to login to the app.

Six-months ago Zomoto had gone international with the support for restaurants in Dubai. In December, they entered the London market. They also offer recommendations for restaurants in Colombo, Doha and Manila, Philippines.

Last month, Info Edge (India), the company which runs major portals like Naukri.com had invested an additional $10 million in Zomato.

In India, Zomato offers its discovery and review engine to 13 cities and claims to have over 9 million users every month.

The company apps on all platforms like Android, iOS, BlackBerry and Windows Phone.
