Uknowva Wants To Take A Crack At Tough Enterprise Social Networking

Ask Vivek Paul, who recently sold his enterprise social collaboration startup, and you’d probably get the sense that it may not rain for enterprise social networks in India, especially if they are on the cloud. Ask Sumeet Anand, who runs Kreeo, an enterprise collaboration startup, you’d hear how despite long sales cycles and friction, enterprise 2.0 is getting real in India. It is a tough space no doubt. Still, there are startups trying to make it happen.Uknowva

Meet Uknowva, a year old enterprise collaboration software which wants to take on this market and believes that the relevance of enterprise collaboration has increased in recent times.

The network lets you create a profile, join groups, share photos, videos and events. It can also act as a knowledge repository and store documents on it. It also lets you create polls, find colleagues, collaborate on projects and access HR functions such as leave application and appraisals.

uKnowva was developed by Convergence IT Services, an IT services company founded by  Vicky Jain, Priyanka Bhor and Abhay Talekar in 2008. It has both cloud based and on premise editions. The free edition comes with 2 GB of space and is ad supported. The paid models are charged based the amount of hosting space taken up by the corporate’s network.

The solution is priced at $39 a month for the standard edition and $59 for the business edition. The enterprise edition costs $69.Documents Uknowva

We can see this being used in companies wanting to cut down on e-mail overload and other problems that come with old enterprises. Human Resource departments will find Uknowva’s notice boards handy to reach out to employees.

The way Do.com and a couple of others cracked the space is by being really good at the one thing that they do. It helped smaller teams experiment with the product and gave them time to take a liking to it. A feature packed full suite software, even though reasonably priced, will need decision making to happen at the top level and that will lead to longer sales cycles.
