Chinese mobile browser UCWeb becomes most downloaded mobile browser in India on Google Play

Chinese web browser UCWeb which was launched in India in November last year says that it has become the most downloaded mobile browser on Google Play and is en route to become India’s number 1 mobile internet browser.

The browser is ranked fifth in the Google play store under the free apps category and has partnerships with cellphone operator Vodafone India and Yahoo India to expand in the Indian market.

Opera, the browser which dominates mobile internet in India has been losing market share to the UC browser which has now grabbed 21 % market share in India. Meanwhile, Nokia has slowly caught up with UC Web’s browser, according to data from Statcounter.

The company already claims that it is the world’s largest mobile browser comapny with more than 300 million users in 8 years. In 2009, the browser went to markets outside China for the first time and it now claims more than 10 % marketshare in 6 countries including India.

Earlier in September, the company announced that it had reached more than 60 million users outside China. Pi had reported the browsers fast growth when it made it to the top 3 browsers in India.

UCWeb, claims that its average browsing speed is 50 % higher than that of other mobile browsers on 3G network and its 30 % faster than others when Internet is accessed on Wifi.
