And Now, Times Internet Also Does the Obvious – Launches A Deal Site

The giants have woken up and after Rediff’s deal site, comes the launch of TimesDeal, which is currently available in 6 cities (NCR/Bangalore/Mumbai/Pune/Kolkata and Chennai).

And like Rediff, you get deal voucher on email as well as SMS.timesdeal

The deals, it seems are more focused towards the regular F&B segment (plus the ever popular, SPA?) and it really is difficult to spot a differentiator here.
I wonder why companies like Times Internet didn’t explore integration with its ecommerce services (i.e. sell products), i.e. augment its own division instead of creating a new category (in the company), i.e. of chasing deals (just like 100 other sites in India).

What’s your opinion? Is this just another noise, with no real differentiator? (also see: Times of India Launches Justdial Competitor, Times Infoline).

Unless the large player like Times & Rediff put in Focus, Team, Marketing & Introduce product innovation they will remain the runner’s up or the also-runs.
These players have not been know to make a significant impact in the past, in categories like jobs(nukri.com is far bigger) Marriages (shaadi.com is far better)and 100′s of other categories. This is what gives a chance to start ups for making their work.
let us see how the deal category emerges in the future.

This category doesn’t need a biggy anymore. Biggies need this category to stay relevant.
Kudos to startups for cracking this category, much before the biggies.

Interesting, neither TimesDeal nor Rediff’s contact us page seems to be working right now.
