BSNL offers TV on mobile
BSNL, Andhra Pradesh circle, announced ‘TV on Mobile’ service to its subscribers in collaboration with 12 channels as the content providers. The subscription plans unveiled by the company include a one channel per day plan for Rs 10, one channel for one month plan for Rs 50 and 12 channels for Rs 150 per month. (source)
Biyani’s Future Group to expand into media like shopping channel, TV programmes, FM radio, mags, etc.
Future Media, the media arm of the group, recently launched a women’s magazine, My World, priced at Rs 25, given away as gratis to shoppers at Future Group stores (Pantaloon, Big Bazaar, etc) spending over Rs 1,500. The company plans to launch a magazine each quarter.
Future Media also plans to enter the television medium with the launch of a home shopping channel.
FM radio is on the cards as well and the group will either look at acquiring existing stations or bid for licences in the next round of bidding for radio [source]
3G spectrum to be auctioned
DoT has decided to go in for open auction of spectrum for 3G services — mobile services that provide high-speed data internet to users.
Communications Minister A Raja also said three operators are initially expected to be given spectrum of up to 10 MHz each and both 2G operators (operators of current services) and new players (including foreign companies) can bid for 3G spectrum in the 2.1 GHz band.
The 3G auction will take place through an e–auction conducted by a specialised agency. The lowest bid will become the base price for the subsequent round of bidding for the remaining players. [source]
Yahoo to power search on mobile portals of BSNL, BPL and Aircel
Yahoo! announced more Indian partners for its mobile search service, OneSearch, at the Mobile Asia Congress in Hong Kong. Yahoo! will empower search services on the mobile portals of three Indian operators, BSNL, BPL Mobile and Aircel, through OneSearch.
As part of the deal, mobile subscribers of BSNL, BPL Mobile and Aircel with GPRS-enabled phones will be able to search for news, financial information, weather conditions, Flickr photos, Yahoo! Answers and mobile websites. Apart from mobile search, BSNL subscribers will also have access to Yahoo! Mail and Yahoo! Messenger as part of this deal. [source]
Mobile portal NDTV Active to be launched in December
NDTV Convergence, the digital media arm of the NDTV Group, is gearing up to release a beta version of a mobile portal called NDTV Active in December. The portal has been developed by the US-based July Systems.
Sanjay Trehan, CEO, NDTV Convergence, says, “The portal will be tested in real conditions for a few weeks, after which it will be launched commercially.”
NDTV Active will be packaged with various mobile sites consisting of text-based content like news, movies, astrology, music, lifestyle and stocks, powered by NDTV’s online content. Video content will be added later on. [source]
