Apalya Technologies, Hyderabad based mobile entertainment startup has raised $3mn from IDG Ventures and Qualcomm Ventures.
Apalya aggregates premium entertainment content from different content providers, and then optimizes the content to be suitable for small screen or mobile viewing. Apalya’s USP lies in delivering the best possible mobile entertainment experience based on the type of the device and the kind of network being used.![]()
The startup has tied up with telecom operators and their service is live on BSNL/MTNL’s 3G service and the content is being aggregated from close to 40 TV channels.
Apalya earlier raised Rs. 2 Crores from Mumbai Angels and the service is ripe for prime usage when 3G will be launched in India (read:3G delayed till December).
What’s important about Apalya is the tie ups they have/need to have with operators, since transcoding services are mostly run on software and scale comes when you install the hardware (which works with the existing CDN).

This is a brilliant idea. Would love to watch TV on the go.. And if I get a iphone with data free then I’ll surely rock without paying much to my data service provider..
Moreover it still needs much.. These technologies are quite far away remember itv2 from BBC on Nokia with their iplayer?
So not something new but its something I would like in India.
Cheers Buddies
But but but, I have wonderful idea from yours :P let me work on it.
