Never miss an Opportunity to Hangout with Friends with Hangtime

Seeking to eliminate missed opportunities to be with friends, Hangtime has launched an app that maps your friends’ social future. With Hangtime, users can easily see a friends’ social future – from concerts to karaoke, plays and more – and thus find ways to hang out together.

The app is currently available only for iPhone and iTouch, but there is a web app which works on all other mobile devices.

As Karl Jacob, CEO and Founder of Hangime says, “the current state of the art is only focused on the social past and present. Hangtime is the first company to focus on the social future helping people discover new opportunities to hang out.”Hangtime

Hangtime lets users see friends’ social plans organized by day, hour and even by how popular the event is among friends. When users see an activity they are interested in, they simply click the “Interested” button to immediately notify friends. If friends click “Interested” as well, all interested friends are notified in real-time.

Hangtime gathers all of its data from Facebook on what friends “might” do in the future. Hangtime then presents the information using an interface, that we loved, and includes the following:

There is a single-finger swipe gesture which reduces the time it takes to explore hundreds of events.

A “celestial header” lets users know the event time through a fun visual design that tries to mimic the light from the sun, moon or stars at the time the event is happening. While this header is very visually appealing and also functional, we would love an option to manually enter a date.

Hangtime users can also easily see the kind of crowd that will be at an event by browsing the attendee list or swiping to see full screen pictures of each attendee. Users are also updated in real-time about their friends’ interest in events through notifications and changes in the attendee summary.

Apart from attendee information, a user can also find details of the event like host, time and venue.

In Hangtime, a user can say that he publicly interested in an event or can privately share it with a friend.

Hangtime displays all events happening around you, so it is great to find something for everyone. We could not figure out a way to sort out the events by category. There was also no way to create an event on the app.

The UI on the mobile web, which we checked on our Android phone, was very limited and we hope to see standalone apps on other platforms soon.

Hangtime is founded by veteran entrepreneurs Karl Jacob, Allan Carroll and Mark Halstead who previously started numerous successful ventures including We’re Related, Keen, Cloudmark, and Coveroo. Jacob is a serial entrepreneur who has had five successful startups, including Dimension X which was sold to Microsoft, as well as Keen which sold to AT&T. The other ventures are currently profitable and growing.

Hangtime has already secured $3.5 million since inception from institutional investors including 500 Startups, Charles River Ventures, Crosslink Capital, Freestyle Capital, Greylock Partners, Intel Capital, Interwest Partners, Ignition Venture Partners, Science Inc., SV Angel, Tugboat Ventures and Webb Investment Network. Angel investors Mark Goldstein, Chris Hobbs, Tim Kendall, Steven Lurie, Dave Morin, Matt Ocko, Mark and Ali Pincus, Ben Smith and Michael Tanne also joined the round. Steven Lurie was the former general manager of Zynga India, and is presently the general manager of Zynga International.
