It seems Smile Interactive’s DealsAndYou is foraying into selling books with the launch of BooksAndYou, a domain they bought yesterday from Axsiom, a domain brokering service.
DealsAndYou was earlier called Wanamo which was acquired by Smile Interactive in June 2010 and they recently raised $17mn in funding from Mayfield Fund, Norwest Venture Partners, Intel Capital and Nokia Growth Partners.
Given that selling books is still a profitable business (margins are better than electronics), most of the deal sites are now pivoting to selling products (read: A Snapshot Of Snapdeal’s Product Business) and it won’t be surprising if Smile Interactive forays into selling books too (they also own FashionAndYou which has raised funding from Sequoia Capital).
Update: Abhishek Shah mentions that this news isn’t correct and he isn’t formally involved with Dealsandyou anymore.
“I saw this good domains being sold for a penny on a domain reselling forum and bought it on personal capacity. I own dozens of other andyou.com domains too i always buy any which is available as a habit to block future competition or domains squatting”
