Coupon site Couponrani.com has launched a Chrome extension (link) that allows users to get online shopping coupons within the browser.

This extension saves users time to go out and search for relevant coupons.Say you are looking for a coupon on a purchase. You add the item to your cart and Couponrani toolbar suggests the right coupon.

“Next few versions would iterate over this, and solve for finding the relevant coupon for your purchase, which remains a pain point for consumers,” said Ravi Trivedi, the founder of Srijan Capital which incubated Couponrani.com.

This comes at a time when over 150 Coupon sites running in India are really in need to differentiate, as most of them struggle to go beyond SEO traffic and affiliate money (read: All about Online coupon sales and eCommerce in India).

According to a report released by ComScore in August last year, around 4.6 million Internet users in India aged 15 and older accessed the coupons category from a home or work computer, reaching 10.4 % of the entire online population.

At present, referral traffic from coupon websites is the largest source of sales eCommerce websites like Yebhi, Pepperfry and Myntra after Google search traffic and in certain cases, direct traffic.

Earlier, we covered MakkhiChoose, a chrome plugin that alerts to you a lower price when you are shopping on any of the ecommerce sites (Flipkart, Indiatimes, Homeshop18, Infibeam, Naaptol and Mysmartprice).

What about data privacy, after all the plugin is reading user data? Ravi mentions that they do not intend to sell any user data that they are collecting.  That being said, CouponRani uses the data for retargeting purposes, to show relevant ads to user when he/she comes back.
