Telecom major Airtel has launched postpaid 4G LTE (long term evolution) service in Pune after successful roll outs in Kolkata and Bangalore. 4G provides about 100mbps download speed which is almost 5-8 times the speed of existing 3G networks. Besides offering rich content, 4G will allow superfast access to High Definition (HD) video streaming, multiple chatting, instant uploading of photos among others.

Two days back Airtel and Chinese telecom giant Huawei announced the launch of first 4th Generation LTE phone – Ascend P1 LTE in India,. The phone has a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 dual core processor at 1.5 Ghz, Android Ice Cream Sandwich operating system, 1 GB RAM, 4 GB ROM, 4.3 in super amoled HD display, an 8 megapixel camera and Gorilla Glass. However, price of the device is yet to be announced. It is important to note that India is the first country in the world to commercially deploy 4G LTE technology.

Airtel’s 4G services in Kolkata was launched for both postpaid and prepaid consumers, however prepaid consumers in Pune will have to wait bit longer as currently service is limited to postpaid consumers only.  On pricing part, it looks to be on the higher side, the dongle for accessing 4G services on laptops and PCs is priced at Rs. 4,999

Using Airtel 4G, now people from Pune can access  around 76 channels and on-demand videos across various genres including movies, music, entertainment and news. Pricing for such pack is Rs. 150 and Rs 49 for monthly and weekly subscribers, respectively. Airtel 4G in Pune also comes with introductory trial offer and users can access Airtel Broadband TV free of charge during the trial offer.
